How to tell if a sale price is real
A big discount badge is not the same as a low price. Five checks before you buy in the sale:
- Compare with the usual price, not the MRP. A seller can raise the MRP before a sale so the same price looks like a bigger discount.
- Look at the lowest price of the last few months. If it was cheaper a few weeks ago, the sale price is not special.
- Watch for a price raised just before the sale. The price history shows the jump in the days before the sale started.
- Read the offer line. A headline price can depend on one bank card or an exchange, while the price for everyone else is higher.
- Not low enough yet? Set a price drop alert. Sale prices keep changing during the sale and we tell you when it falls.
